The long awaited event has arrived! Bella had six puppies, four boys and two girls. She is a wonderful mother and took having puppies like a soldier (a woman soldier as no man could handle child birth)! I was so surprised at Bella and her affinity for motherhood. She did everything perfectly! It made me appreciate the wonderful things God has instilled in all things. The puppies were born on this Fourth of July beginning at 2:35 AM, yes AM, I was up for a complete 24 hours! She had all of her puppies by 4:37 AM. We did not have any problems, thank GOD. All of the puppies are very healthy and active. More than anything they are just so darn cute! We are VERY excited that she gave us an Independence Day Litter and we will subsequently be naming them after Revolutionary War heroes. Pics are below!

We have had an eventful week! All of the puppies opened their eyes. They were all of the way opened by day 13. They have all been very active, some barking but not as much whining this week. They are eating a little further apart now. Bella gets a break every once in a while! She is socializing with our other two dogs more and staying with her babies less. Sometimes she does just go lie with them while they are asleep, she is still being a good mommy. All of the puppies are trying to get around better without crawling maybe taking a few little steps. They are responding to being petted, turning their heads into it. They still sleep almost all of the time except when eating. Many times they are sleeping on their backs just like Mommy and Daddy! It is all very sweet. I am truly enjoying watching them develop and change daily!

Today was the first day that Bella actually played with Z. He was so excited! To be truthful, so was I. It was really nice to see her back to herself! The puppies are walking better and some have actually made some very small, short-lived, clumsy attempts at play, it is very cute. They are showing a fondness for staying close to their mother and their hair is becoming fluffier. As I put them by the window for their hour of sunshine today, I noticed that a couple of the puppies actually took a good look at me! So, they are noticing their surroundings a little anyway. They are gaining weight well and they're becoming very roly-poly. As Cotons are known for they show a penchant for sleeping on their backs which is so funny! I just LOVE Cotons, they are just fun to WATCH!

It has been a while since I updated our little one's progress and it has been great! The puppies are almost 5 weeks old! They had their first visit to the vet at three weeks (official three week weights will follow later). They are all very healthy as you can tell by their pics. They are running and playing with each other and the people in our family. They have even began just today to play with their Mama, Bella. Z is still scared of them or they would be playing with him I am sure! They are responding to me and love to be held by all members of our family. Their personalities are individually developing. The big thing this week is that weaning has begun! They all started on solid food and very easily I might add. Suprisingly, little Frankie is our big eater and big Georgie is the one who needed encouragement! I didn not think it would be so easy but so far it has been. I am looking forward to getting Bella back to normal. The puppies even have a little hop they have been doing in their play. I am so excited that it is time to start holding and playing with them but am already dreading having to let them go to their forever families. It will be very hard for all of us! Already this litter has my heart. I have truly enjoyed the experience thus far! Will try to update the videos tomorrow. Please check out the videos if you have not!
